We get back to the clubhouse after lunch, and Sunny tells me she’s going to lie down and take a nap. Something she doesn’t do very often, and it will give Zeus and me time to catch up since we’re leaving tomorrow.

There’s a pool table at the club. “How about we shoot some pool?”

“Think you can beat me, ol’ man?” he smirks.

“I’ll show ya ol’ man.” I grab my crotch.

He grabs a cue and tosses it to me and I catch it midair.

“Break,” he says, setting the balls up for 8 Ball.

I pop my neck as I size up the table and chalk the tip of the cue, then I bend down, placing the cue ball where I want it. Bridging my fingers on the table, the cue rests on my thumb as I guide it where I want to hit the cue ball.

“I’m going to clean the table.” I laugh before breaking the racked balls. I hit the cue, shooting balls all over the table, sinking both solids and stripes in the pockets. I count them quickly. “Solids,” I call out and get to work, sending each solid to a pocket.

I take my time placing each ball in the hole, and I come to the 8 ball, and I walk around the table, trying to find the best shot to call it in.

I point, “Right pocket.” I line the shot up, pulling my cue stick back, and hit the cue ball perfectly as it hits the 8 ball and lands in the pocket.

“Ice one, Zeus zero,” I smirk.

“Fucker. You were always a showoff,” he says as he racks the balls.

“Damn right. So, how are things going? I noticed you kept checking the bar out and the area around it.”

“We’re doing okay. There have been some issues with a rival gang, but what’s new right now?”

“Nothing, it’s the same shit, different day.”

“You got that right, brother,” he says, breaking the balls. “What’s going on with you and Sunny?” He stops playing pool and looks me in the eye.

“I’m going to lock shit down with her this time. I fucked up years ago, and I’m not letting her out of my life. I won’t fuck up again.”

“That’s good. I’m so proud of what you have done with your life after getting sober. You’ve come so far from the hell you had yourself in.”

“Without Sunny, I would’ve already been in the ground.”

Zeus nods in confirmation, knowing it too. “Stripes.” He misses. “Fuck. Are you going to clean the table again?”

“I’ll go easy on ya.” I wink and sink in two balls before missing. We continue the rest of the afternoon bullshitting around the pool table. Brothers come in from work and runs, and we take turns running the table.

Sunny comes up to me and sits on my lap as I’m taking a break from playing. Yeah, I need to grab onto her for good because women like her only come around once in a lifetime.
